Parkwood High School has gained specialist status

Parkwood has gained specialist status in Languages and Sport. There is only one other school in the country with this particular combination of specialisms.

Parkwood joins a long list of Sheffield secondaries that have been successful in gaining status to date, and every secondary school in the city is set to have achieved the prestigious standard in the next two years.

“Specialist school status is a very important part of our citywide commitment to raise attainment and equip schools to support young people to reach their potential”, says Cllr Harry Harpham, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services. “By establishing these areas of expertise, we can share resources more effectively between schools and make sure that all young people have access to the highest-quality learning environments.

“Congratulations to Parkwood . I know they have worked very hard for this, and they can be justifiably proud of this achievement.”

Brightside MP, David Blunkett, said: "This is extraordinarily good news. I know that Parkwood High have worked long and hard over recent years to achieve the quality and standard required to gain specialist school status and to build on their tremendous progress in lifting dramatically both aspiration and achievement."
